Attorney Education Q&A

Q:  What is the annual education requirement for the CLM?
A:  Individual members and each nominated attorney in a Member Firm must either attend Annual Conference or complete five hours annually of on-line or local Litigation Management training, provided through the Council.

Q:  Are there specific courses that must be taken?
A:  Yes, the courses have been approved by the CLM and are designated on the TRT, Inc. website at www.trtcle.com.

Q:  Why must I take these courses?
A:  We certify to our Fellows, Members and outside parties that all Member Attorneys and Firms have been nominated for Membership by a Fellow and have completed the annual education requirement. 

Q:  Will I receive CLE credit for the required courses?
A:  The courses have been approved for CLE credit in most states.  Please review the information at www.trtcle.com.  

Q:  What if I already have CLE’s can I use those instead of the CLM courses?
A:  No.  You must complete your courses through TRT, Inc. at www.trtcle.com.

Q:  How do I register for the CLM courses?
A:  You can register by signing on to www.trtcle.com and selecting the CLM approved courses icon.  During the checkout process, enter the code “CLM” to receive the appropriate discount.  In addition, entering the “CLM” code will allow us to electronically track your completed courses.

Q:  What type of CLM approved courses are offered through TRT, Inc.?
A:  Online classes (one hour) and Teleconference classes (two hours).   

Q:  When must the continuing education course be completed?
A:  The annual education requirement must be completed by your membership renewal date.  This is one year from your initial registration and by that same annual date thereafter.

Q:  Can I complete my CLM education requirement by attending the Annual Conference?
A:  Yes, by attending the Annual Conference you satisfy the annual CLM education requirement. 

Q:  If I miss the conference, can I take the same courses through TRT, Inc.?
A:  Yes, the courses have been recorded and will be offered online at www.trtcle.com

Q:  Is there a discount available to CLM members when they register for classes through TRT, Inc.?
A:  Yes.  CLM Members receive a 15 percent discount off all standard fees offered by TRT.  Register for courses by signing on to www.trtcle.com and entering the code “CLM” during the checkout process.

Q:  Can I take other courses through TRT, Inc.?
A:  Yes.  In addition you will receive the CLM discount for all TRT courses.

Q:  How does the CLM monitor the education requirement?
A:  TRT forwards a report to CLM for all attorneys using the “CLM” code when registering on the TRT website.  In addition, you will receive notification from TRT for individual state bar CLE reporting.  You do not need to send your completed certificates to the CLM.

Q:  What if I forgot to enter the CLM code when registering with TRT?
A:  Send an e-mail to Danielle Bailey at danielle.bailey@litmgmt.org with the certificates received from TRT.

Q:  What if an Individual member does not complete the CLM educational requirement?
A:  An Individual Member will not be allowed to renew membership until the education requirement has been completed.

Q:  For Firm Memberships, do all attorneys in the firm need to complete the CLM education requirement?
A:  No.  Only attorneys that have been nominated by a Fellow must complete the CLM education requirement.
